F.A.Q

Getting on the river naturally comes with questions. Check out our FAQ below.

We cover topics like pre-booking, expectations, logistics and weather below.

Before you Book

  • Do I need experience to go rafting or kayaking?

No experience is needed for most trips. We offer options for all skill levels, from beginner scenic floats to more active whitewater. Our guides provide a full safety briefing and paddling instruction before every trip—your safety and comfort are our top priorities.

  • Is river rafting safe?

Safety is our top priority. We use high-quality equipment, and all guides are trained in river safety and rescue. As with any outdoor activity, there is inherent risk, but we take every precaution to provide a safe and enjoyable experience.

  • Do I need to know how to swim?

Basic swimming ability is recommended, but not required. All guests wear a properly fitted PFD (life jacket), and our guides are trained to assist in the water if needed.

  • Is rafting family-friendly?

Yes. Many of our trips are family-friendly, especially our scenic Class I–II floats. Minimum age and weight requirements vary by trip and river conditions—check individual trip details for specifics.

  • Are there age or weight restrictions?

Yes. Requirements vary by trip difficulty and water levels. Many beginner-friendly trips are suitable for guests ages 6–8+, with minimum weight requirements typically around 50–60 lbs.

  • Are there fitness requirements?

Most trips require average physical fitness. Guests should be comfortable paddling and getting in and out of the raft or kayak.

  • Medical conditions and special considerations

Please notify us at the time of booking of any medical conditions, injuries, mobility limitations, or special needs that may affect participation.

If your trip includes a meal, please also let us know in advance of any dietary restrictions. Advance notice helps us create the safest and best experience for your group.

  • What type of trips do you offer?

We offer a variety of river trips across Colorado’s Western Slope. Most are scenic Class I–II floats with opportunities for wildlife viewing and swimming. We also offer more active Class II–III whitewater trips on rivers like the San Miguel and Uncompahgre.

  • What’s the difference between rafting and guided kayaking?

Rafting is a more social, group experience guided from the same boat. Guided kayaking (inflatable “duckies”) is more hands-on and gives each guest their own boat for a more active and independent experience.

  • Can we request a private trip?

Yes. Private trips are available for families, groups, and special occasions. Contact us to customize your experience.

  • Do you offer group discounts?

Group discounts may be available depending on trip type and availability. Please call or email us for more information.

  • How can I book a trip?

You can book online through our website or contact us directly by phone. Visit our Book Now page for current availability.

Day-of Logistics

  • Where do we meet?

All trips meet at our shop in Ridgway, Colorado, unless otherwise noted in your booking confirmation. Transportation from your lodging may be available upon request.

  • What time should I arrive?

Please arrive a few minutes early to check in, get fitted for gear, and sign a waiver.

  • How long are the trips?

Trip duration varies based on river and conditions.

    • Half-day trips: ~3–4 hours total
    • Full-day trips: ~6–8 hours

See individual trip pages for exact timing.

  • Do you offer transportation or shuttles?

Transportation is included for all guided trips. For rentals and unguided trips, shuttle service may be available for an additional charge.

  • Are there bathrooms or changing areas?

  • Where can I use my rental?

Rentals can be used on nearby rivers and lakes, including the Uncompahgre River, Ridgway Reservoir at Ridgway State Park, the Gunnison River, and local alpine lakes. Our team can recommend the best locations based on current conditions.

    • Full-day rentals are available during shop hours: 9:00 AM–6:00 PM

Multi-day rentals are available upon request—call to inquire.

  • Are rentals available at Ridgway State Park?

Rentals are picked up at our shop in Ridgway and can be used at Ridgway State Park. We do not operate inside the park, but delivery may be available upon request.
